Two homeowners on the same street can be quoted very different numbers for the same yard, and both quotes can be honest. The published Miami bands are wide because the job is wide: the aggregate, the depth, the drainage and what gets removed all move the price. This is what the numbers look like before anyone measures your yard.
Published Miami sources put a complete professional installation at 9 to 15 per square foot, with most jobs landing between 11 and 15 per square foot. That figure assumes the old surface comes out, a compacted base goes in, the surface is seamed and anchored, and infill is brushed in. A typical 500 square foot backyard therefore lands between 4,500 and 7,500 installed.
Below about nine dollars a square foot something is missing from that description. It is usually the base depth, the drainage outlet, or the haul-away of the old lawn. Above about fifteen, you are buying a specialty surface, a difficult site, or a premium product with a face weight to match.
Material alone is published at 2 to 5 per square foot for basic residential grass and 5 to 7 per square foot for premium pet-grade or high-face-weight grass. Labour is published at 8 to 12 per square foot across South Florida installers. Splitting the two is the fastest way to see what a quote is really offering: a low material line with a mid labour line is usually basic turf on a standard base, while a high material line with a mid labour line is a better product on the same build.
Published South Florida bands put putting green material at 12 to 16 per square foot with labour at 15 to 20, and sports or playground material at 15 to 20 with labour at 12 to 15. Premium landscaping turf runs 10 to 15 per square foot for material and 10 to 12 for labour. These surfaces are small areas with shaped or padded bases, so the fixed costs spread over fewer square feet and the headline rate climbs.
Ask for the measured area, the excavation depth, the aggregate by name, the compacted depth and the compaction check, the drainage fall and outlet, the removal and disposal, the edge restraint and perimeter anchoring, the infill type and rate, and the warranty split between material and workmanship. A quote carrying those eight lines can be compared with another one. A lump sum cannot, and that is usually why it is a lump sum.
Build the same yard two ways with the published figures and the difference is visible. A standard 500 square foot system with a basic base computes to $5,235.00, or $10.47 per square foot, and an engineered pet-proof system of the same size computes to $6,960.00, or $13.92 per square foot. The gap is a deeper dig, better aggregate, zeolite infill and additional edge pinning, and it is roughly the cost of one section rebuild if the cheaper base fails.
That comparison is the useful one to have in hand when the quotes arrive. It does not tell you what your yard costs; it tells you whether a quote is describing the build in the table or something else entirely.
For a courtyard or a side yard, yes. Many Kendall and Doral lots run larger, and Hialeah lots run smaller, so measure the actual area rather than assuming.
Mobilisation, delivery and the base work do not shrink with the area. A 250 square foot yard carries the same fixed costs as a 500 square foot one.
Ask what the deposit buys and tie the balance to milestones: material delivered, base compacted, surface finished. A single large up-front payment leaves you with little leverage.
They are the published bands from Miami and South Florida supplier and installer pages at the time of writing. Material prices move, so treat them as a check on a quote rather than a fixed rate.
A residential artificial grass installation in Miami is a drainage and sub-base project that happens to end with grass on top. The lawn is the last two days of the job; the base is everything else.
A pet yard is a plumbing problem with grass on top. Two dogs in a Miami wet season produce far more urine than a thin base can carry away, and the smell people blame on the grass is ammonia from a base that holds water.
A playground surface is specified by what happens when a child falls on it. The grass is the top layer of a safety system, and the layer under it, the shock pad, is the part a cheap quote leaves out.
A putting green is the most precisely built surface in this trade. The ball tells the truth about the base, and a green laid over an uneven pad will not roll true no matter what the turf costs.
Commercial work is judged on documents as much as on the surface. A property manager needs a specification, a drainage plan, a wind detail and a warranty schedule that survives an insurance review, not a square-foot price.
